Hello and welcome to my world of great food, good friends, and happy vibes.
My name is Leonor San Sebastian and I'm originally from the Basque Country in the north of Spain.
I learned to cook from my mom and grandmothers. Since I was very little I yearned for the magical aromas and flavors that came from their kitchens.
My mom's mom would cook very traditional dishes on a cast iron wood-burning stove. When I think of her, I always picture her wearing an old cotton apron in her traditional rustic kitchen and bright red piquillo peppers cooking, very slowly, on the far right corner of the stove - the Piquillo Peppers Corner!
My dad's mom was also an excellent cook. Her repertoire was embellished by more sophisticated and international dishes, and my memories of her are very different. She would also spend plenty of time in the kitchen, but her hair and nails were always perfect, and she cooked the most eye-catching and tasty canapés, and rich gateaus for the church raffle or latest social event.
My mom cooks just about anything my grandmothers taught her, and took the time to catalogue and preserve each recipe for infinite enjoyment - the very same recipes that I use now.
From her, I learned the importance of choosing the best ingredients, how bread is such a vital accompaniment to every meal, and the pleasure of sharing it all with good friends and family, and of course, a bottle of wine. The result? I cook authentic Spanish food - not too fancy or overproduced, just wholesome, honest, and flavorsome.
Do I only cook Spanish food? Of course not. There is such a wealth of food to try from all around the world! I have gathered recipes from everywhere and anywhere, and I love to cook them in the company of other people that, like me, are absorbed by the experience.
